Research

In regards to the research process, I have several ideas for the composition of the poster which is all credited to Pinterest sources.

The mood board posters I've chosen have a vintage, artistic, and nostalgic feel. I was interested in using color, typography, and imagery to create a specific mood and evoke certain emotions.

In this poster design, we were told to comprise a poster to express the meaning of the motivational quote. I figured out that I wanted something personal to me which is why I did not search much on the internet like Pinterest or other social media sources. Instead, I derived the quote from a KPOP girl group which I've followed for quite some time. Aespa's "Dreams Come True" song has a lyric which became the center focus of this poster.

"Funny How All Our Dreams Come True"

This quote to me, inspires hope and belief in oneself.
The lyric suggests that with determination and effort, anything is possible. It encourages listeners to pursue their aspirations, whether big or small.

Ideation

There are several variations when it comes to sketches. I had a hand-drawn sketch as well as two digital sketches. The sketch shows two images: one with young hands reaching up and the other with an older person wearing glasses. It's about how dreams can come true, even if they seem impossible at first. The young hands represent hope and the older person represents wisdom and experience. Together, they show how dreams can become reality.

Sir Hafiz chose the left sketch. He asked perhaps if there was a better photo to visually express the theme of 'funny' and 'dreams'. I still kept my initial idea of having a sunset as the background picture for this poster and instead, decided to visually use the fonts and elements of the poster from Photoshop to help express the terms better.

Process

Here's the original photo I used for this poster which was taken near DK Senza Apartment on one Monday evening. After several edits in coloring and inserting moon pictures with the 'Aespa' name overlaying it to reference it back, I moved on to the typography.

In this poster, I am using Creams San Serif Font from Dafont.

Following the sketch, I placed the typography in similar positions. I have always thought of making the typography as if it were clouds in the sky which let me manually copy-pasted circles over the fonts, create outlines to adjust the sizing of the circles, and use shape builder at the end of the day to merge the circles with the font together.

However, the cloud fonts at that state didn't amaze me. Even the idea of putting Pathfinder not it for Shadow wasn't enough because I felt it wasn't as puffy and soft as the real clouds. So, after playing around a bit on Illustrator, I ended up making the fonts with the 3D Effect with Inflate.

This was the last version before I added the final touches of shadow, color, and grain in other to give out the concept of the poster to be a bit vintage, young, and aesthetically pleasing.

The poster becomes funny because it later shows a paper airplane flying to the moon and a city being built. These are things we used to think were impossible dreams. But now, we see that they've actually come true! So, the poster is making fun of our dreams, which once seemed silly, have become a reality. It's like saying, "Remember when we thought flying to the moon was crazy? Well, look at us now!"

FINAL

Reflection

There's always room for improvement in designing which I am ready to prove in the final project task. However, I do agree that I need to have a solid concept much better because I want the quote to be understood by the audience which at first, I do not even have a target audience at all. Overall, I'm able to identify and use the well-equipped tools in the program.
