WEEK 9
LECTURE | Digital Surrealism
Realism photo
Realism: Focus on everyday, ordinary aspects of the world we perceive as reality. The subject and themes are straightforward without venturing into the unusual. (No emphasis on creativity or stepping outside)
Surrealism photo
Surrealism is a twist on Realism. It delves into the subconscious, focusing on dreamlike imagery and seeking to distort everyday life. Surrealism challenges logic and embraces the illogical. Inspired by dreams and surrealistic art, its features peculiar imagery and unexpected combinations.
What is Digital Surrealism?
Surrealism is a cultural movement that emphasizes art as a means for artists to express their inner thoughts and emotions. It has become one of the most popular and influential digital art styles in this digital era.
characteristics :
- Dream-like scenes and symbolic images. (Unexpected, illogical juxtapositions)
- Capturing your dream. (Sketch out your vision roughly and find references images to help greatly in realizing your idea.)
- Mindset during creation. ("Does this look real", Make it happen to the best of your ability.)
Tutorial & Practical
Poster Design
In this project, we were required to create a poster design using photography, typography, and vector graphics. In this task, the photography is from DPI, while typography and vector graphics are from IVN.
In preparation for the collaborative task of DPI & IVN, here are the submitted moldboard photos I sent for the references of my poster.
I wanted to create something about the sky or a focus on a face to issue the quote of the day "Funny how all our dreams come true" which adds a playful touch to childhood hopes and potential ideas to what I ( or viewers ) can do in life.
Regarding the quote, I interpret it as a way to work hard or a chance of a stroke of luck with the addition of working hard. Hence, it's important o craft a face into the work in order to portray the heavy lifting of the brains behind the work or perhaps a physical body part - hands. I provided the sketch to Sir Hafiz for reconfirmation as Mr. Fauzi liked all the approaches. He chose to use the ones with the hands sketch.
